Jam #2 – Thee Oh Sees

After a couple of weeks off mostly because of the carnival, the radio show will be back on the digital airwaves this Sunday. Just before writing this little piece here I uploaded the Jam for this week influenced by some news about a Greek festival. Plissken Festival announced the majority of the lineup for this year and it’s quite impressive from a Greek gig-addict’s point of view.

Plissken Festival 2015

There are no first-class bands that will play in Athens on early June, but it seems to be by far the most satisfying lineup we’ve seen from all the festivals down here the latest years. Looking for an attraction, Savages and Iceage could stand up for that role just as well as Mogwai or The Twilight Sad, but it’s a song from Thee Oh Sees that was chosen for this week’s Jam.

Most of the bands released their latest album in 2014 and some of them are going to put out a new one the following months. Thee Oh Sees belong to the former category, having released the excellent ‘Drop‘ on April last year. New releases are always interesting and plenty during this specific month and this album was one of those that stood out, along with the likes of Jungle By Night, Birds Of Satan, Ought and Tuomas Holopainen magnificent idea on Scrooge McDuck’s life. But those are for another story.

Thee Oh Sees’ latest album is definitely one of their best, with nine songs lasting a bit more than half an hour with rhythm and ideas mostly expressed through the guitar. Opener ‘Penetrating Eye‘ is one my favourites with ‘Savage Victory‘ and ‘Camera (Queer Sound)‘, but that is for sure unjust to some other songs of ‘Drop‘. More about Thee Oh Sees, Plissken Festival and all new music on Sunday nights. Till then, you can listen to the Jam below.
